Where in the Copper Country Wednesday – #3
Before we move on to today’s picture, here’s the answer to last week: Copper Harbor Visitor’s Center. Congrats to Geoff for guessing correctly! (for more information on this series, please see the beginning of this post).
This week’s picture is a picture that our son took a few years ago while we were out and about near Calumet. I absolutely love this picture so it had to make its way on here somehow :)
There is something standing in the background that will provide a clue, so you’ll want to click on the picture for a larger view. Those following Copper Country Explorer may be able to get this one. Ok…enough clues. Here’s the picture…
Where in the Copper Country is this picture taken?

Looks like the good old Osceola #13 to me, seen from those strange ponds which the road and old railroad both cross.
Is that the original “Beaver Dam” pond that C&H used for the their boilers back in the day?
I always thought that the “beaver dam” pond for Calumet was Lake Calumet up north of town, but I don’t know it for sure.
I don’t know, you could be right. I was just guessing.
Hmm…I’m not sure about the history. I’ll have to consult with Explorer :)
I asked Mike and he said that dcclark is right about the beaver dam. It was Calumet Lake.
We’re not sure what these ponds are there for.
I’d bet these were cooling ponds, just for Osceola instead of C&H.
dcclark nailed it!
