Where in the Copper Country Wednesday - #5

Posted by Tricia July 16, 2008

Jeremy nailed it with last week’s picture. The sign is located at Bete Gris Beach right at the beginning of the public section (for more information on this series, please see the beginning of this post).

This week’s picture is a free place to visit. In the time I have lived here, I have driven by it hundreds of times without stopping. It’s along the route to Great Sand Bay (one of our favorite places to go on a hot summer day). A few weeks ago, we finally stopped there and we were glad we did - it was a nice look into the past.

Wednesday #3

Where in the Copper Country is this picture taken?

I’m guessing that it’s one of the buildings near the blacksmith’s shop along M-26 heading in to Eagle River. Of course I’ve never stopped there, so I don’t really know!

I’d say it has something to do with the lumber trade because of the grindstone and two-man sawblades rather than a blacksmith.

Looking at the map, I’d say you’re right dcclark. My first guess was Central since I think that’s the one being restored as a museum, but it’s out of the way.

Yeah, that’s why I said “near the blacksmith’s shop”… I *think* that there are other places to visit there.

And I suppose Central IS on the way to Great Sand Bay, if you decide to go through the Central Road, down the Eagle Harbor Shortcut, and then back up 26! :P But by those standards, Toronto is on the way to Great Sand Bay, too.

Hmm…I should clarify. It is on the direct route to Great Sand Bay from Calumet ;)

Jay,

I like to consider my two years living in Canada as one big detour to Great Sand Bay. :)

dcclark came the closest - it is indeed the Blacksmith Shop :)
