Lake Superior Driftwood – Nature’s Work of Art

Our travels over the weekend brought us to McLain State Park. The power of the Lake is clearly visible here with the edges of the park slowly eroding away. You also never know what the waves might wash up on the shore, like this beautiful piece of driftwood.

*sigh* – I want to go back out to the lake!

Yep, you can definitely see the power of Superior in action at McLain.
On the road that follows the shore there’s a section where it turns to dirt. On our 2004 trip that was actually an offshoot of the paved road with campsites along it. Last summer when we went back, the paved section there had been washed away and the gravel is now part of the main road (they also took our the campsites).
BTW, I’ve seen pics and video online of people actually surfing at McLain.
Jay – yep, that paved, blocked-off path to no where is still there. Mike and I were trying to figure out how much time they have left before that happens to other parts of the road as well.
Time lapse photos of it would be pretty cool to see, if they had them.
