Yep, I’m talking about ticks.

Our son has a camera that he takes along on trips so he can take his own pictures. He always provides an interesting angle, like this one.

I don’t care how silly it may look to have my pants tucked into my socks (I think that went out of style in the 80s??). I wear those socks proudly since it helps to keep those critters out!

The dude with the tan pants is Mr. Explorer. He refuses to be as fashionable as me! :)

We had a friend visit the area not too long ago and he brought his neat gas powered RC truck with him. He fired it up outside of our house and took it for a spin. Wow. That thing could move! And it was super loud! We had him shut it down pretty quickly since we didn’t want to disturb the neighbors.

But we wanted to play with it. The perfect playground? Stamp sand!

We had a blast driving it out there. The truck had a top speed of 45 mph and watching it fly across the sands was amazing. While I love the woods, sometimes having these clear areas are real nice too.

I thought I’d go back to Copper Country pics today, but I had to share one last pic of another spot we enjoy in the UP – Sault Ste Marie. We often stay there as a halfway point to visit our relatives. My husband was born there and has fond memories of watching freighters at the Soo Locks with his Grandpa. He likes to share that experience with our son.

During our trip back to the UP, we were able to visit the Soo Locks at night. They are great to visit during the day, but at night it is completely different. We did catch one freighter in the locks, and try as I might I just couldn’t get a non-blurry pic. It would have helped if I remembered to bring the tripod with us LOL.

But my husband took some nice shots of the fountain in the park. At night, it is lit up and absolutely beautiful.

There are speakers around the fountain, but we haven’t been able to catch it when they were playing music along with the water display.

Tomorrow, I’ll be back to posting pics from the Copper Country :)

We have relatives in lower Michigan, so we have crossed the Mackinaw Bridge many, many times. Usually, on our way back home we cross the bridge as soon as possible to set foot back in the UP. This last trip, though, we decided to stop before we got on the bridge and check out the bridge view.

I’m glad we did. Yes, it took a little bit longer to get to the UP, but it sure was pretty. We arrived a little bit before sunset (click on picture for larger view).

We could have stayed a little bit longer to get some sunset pictures, but that was pushing it. Not long after this pic was taken we piled into the car and headed to the UP ;)

I’ve been hearing for some time now the prediction that gas would hit $4.00/gallon this summer. Well, it’s hit that mark a little earlier than predicted in the Copper Country. I can only wonder how much higher it can go.

We rarely go on long car trips during the summer. We usually stay close to home and enjoy everything the area has to offer. I’m not sure the rising gas prices will affect our travels much. But I have already heard from someone that coming up the the area this year to visit is not possible. It’s just too expensive with gas prices as high as they are.

I wonder how much this will affect overall tourism this year. According to a story on TV6, they are hopeful for a good tourist season despite the gas prices. I guess we will see.
