Where in the Copper Country Wednesday – #5

Jeremy nailed it with last week’s picture. The sign is located at Bete Gris Beach right at the beginning of the public section (for more information on this series, please see the beginning of this post).

This week’s picture is a free place to visit. In the time I have lived here, I have driven by it hundreds of times without stopping. It’s along the route to Great Sand Bay (one of our favorite places to go on a hot summer day). A few weeks ago, we finally stopped there and we were glad we did – it was a nice look into the past.

Lake Linden-Hubbell-Tamarack 4th of July Parade Part 1

Posted by Tricia July 15, 2008 (0) Comment

Last week, we left the Keweenaw to visit family in lower Michigan. It’s rough to leave the area for a whole week, but at the same time it is nice to have a change in scenery. I could have done without the stop and go traffic on southbound I-75 on the way down there, but it did lead to a little adventure cruising some back roads in Northern Michigan. It was fun.

I was still very glad to be back home. We missed the Strawberry Festival in Chassell last weekend, but I have a feeling we’ll have to visit a pick-your-own strawberry place this weekend. Mmmm…love those local strawberries!

I also love the 4th of July! My favorite summer day in the Keweenaw is the 4th of July. You have the Lake Linden-Hubbell-Tamarack City parade in the morning. Then you have the Copper Harbor fireworks at night. Of course, there are other happenings scattered across the Copper Country, but I look forward to those two events every year.

We haven’t always watched the 4th of July parade – it became a yearly tradition after our son was born and we lived in Tamarack City. We no longer live there, but we still watch the parade there instead of Lake Linden or Hubbell.

Without further ado, here are some pics from the parade. Since I took quite a few pics, I’ll split up the posts for those who have a slower connection.

Where in the Copper Country Wednesday – #4

Posted by Tricia July 13, 2008 (5) Comment

First of all, my apologies. It is now Sunday morning and here is Wednesday’s post. Sorry to keep everyone hanging for the answer to last week. dcclark nailed it – the answer to last week’s picture is the Osceola #13 as viewed from across the ponds not too far from Swedetown (for more information on this series, please see the beginning of this post).

Now that I have my computer hooked up to some high speed internet, things will resume on here. I still have pics from the 4th of July parade and I also have some pics from the fireworks in Copper Harbor. Expect many pictures the next few days.

This week’s picture is a very special spot to me. It’s a place I stumbled across way back when and fell in love with it. I camped out here in a sleeping bag under a blanket of stars (with one ear open for critters, of course). It is one of my favorite places to go to “get away” since it is often very quiet unless you come out here on a summer day. I have a feeling this will be an easy one, so that is all the clues for today :)

Happy 4th of July!

Posted by Tricia July 4, 2008 (0) Comment

We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day today. The sun is shining, there are a few clouds in the sky, and the temps are in the 70s. It was a wonderful day for the parade in Lake Linden – Hubbell – Tamarack City.

I’ll have more pictures from the parade later. Right now, I’ll just post this one pic from the parade until I can get the rest ready.

Happy 4th!

Where in the Copper Country Wednesday – #3

Before we move on to today’s picture, here’s the answer to last week: Copper Harbor Visitor’s Center. Congrats to Geoff for guessing correctly! (for more information on this series, please see the beginning of this post).

This week’s picture is a picture that our son took a few years ago while we were out and about near Calumet. I absolutely love this picture so it had to make its way on here somehow :)

There is something standing in the background that will provide a clue, so you’ll want to click on the picture for a larger view. Those following Copper Country Explorer may be able to get this one. Ok…enough clues. Here’s the picture…
